Through Lewis Contractors’ Efforts, Church of the Resurrection Rises to New Heights
July 15, 2019 – Lewis Contractors has reached another significant construction milestone at the Church of the Resurrection in Lutherville, MD with the erection of the building’s pre-finished timber trusses, completing the exterior framing of the new church. The project recently entered a new phase of construction as cranes hoisted the custom-made heavy timber trusses into place. Each of the timber trusses—all affixed to structural steel framing—span an impressive 34 feet in length and boldly define the interior worship space. Two cross trusses at the sanctuary transept and eleven standard trusses now outline the rooftop and will remain exposed until the roof sheathing is installed. Once the sanctuary’s roof and ceiling are complete, a final finish coat will be applied to the trusses to further add to their strong architectural presence within the new sanctuary.
Construction is also underway for the final portion of the new building, a small chapel meant to serve as a multi-use community space for intimate worship, small baptisms, weddings and funerals. Once completed, the new two-story 21,595 SF place of worship will be able to house over 350 congregants and include a new common area, servery, library, offices, classrooms and meeting areas. Final completion of the project is scheduled to coincide with the Church’s Palm Sunday service next spring with a dedication ceremony set for 2020.
